New TCL smartwatch with fall detection is aimed at seniors
The new TCL MOVETIME Family Watch MT43A is a smart watch with features designed to help seniors live an independent life by monitoring their heart rates, reminding them to take their medication and alerting family members if they take a fall.
The 4G-enabled watch can also monitor their heart rate, track their activity, tell you how many calories/kilojoules they’ve burnt, monitor their sleep patterns, navigate their way around and let them make hands-free phone calls. It also has a safe zone geofencing feature.
With seniors in mind, the watch also has larger icons and graphics. The screen is quite large, measuring 41mm x 48.5mm against the bigger Apple Watch Series 5’s 38mm x 44mm. It comes in Dark Grey or Black colours.
With the state of the world in the current coronavirus pandemic, devices like this smartwatch are perfect for helping older relatives stay at home during lockdowns.
The TCL MOVETIME Family Watch is one of a range of new products and technologies which TCL launched at the IFA consumer electronics expo in Berlin on September 3. Among them are:
- TCL MOVEAUDIO S200 True Wireless earphones – noise-cancelling Bluetooth buds that use four built-in microphones to filter out external noise for better audio and voice calls.
- TCL 10 TABMAX and TABMID tablets – a high-end model with a 10.36-inch display for power users and a “more fun” tablet with an 8-inch display and a kid’s mode with a child-friendly user interface and parental controls.
- TCL NXTPAPER Technology – display technology that aims to reduce eye-strain by making the screens on our devices look more like paper while retaining their functionality. Low-resolution paper-like displays already exist – such as the e-ink used on Kindle Paperwhite e-readers – but TCL says the full-colour, Full-HD resolution NXTPAPER “has higher contrast for better viewing, is lighter and thinner, and also offers more than 65 per cent better power efficiency”.
TCL MOVETIME Family Watch price
An Australian launch date and price are yet to be confirmed for the TCL MOVETIME Family Watch, which will be available in North America and Europe in the northern autumn for €229 (about A$380 at current rates).
