New wireless Swann Xtreem Security Camera can be mounted anywhere

Swann has launched the fully wireless Xtreem Security Camera – good news for those who want a security camera without the hassle of hard-wiring it in place.

Not only is the camera wireless, it’s waterproof so it can be used indoors or outdoors. It also doesn’t need to be drilled into place, which means you can move it when and where needed.

The Xtreem uses a powerful, rechargeable, 13,200mAh lithium battery which will give you a huge six months of use between charges.

It has a wide 110-degree viewing angle and records video in 1080p full-HD resolution, which Swann says is enough for users to see “faces, logos on clothing, labels on boxes and more, in crystal-clear detail”.

The camera has infrared night vision which lets you see in the dark up to 8m away, and also has True Detect heat and motion sensing.

True Detect is better than a straight motion-sensing system as it only triggers security notifications when the camera senses heat – from people, cars or the like. It means the notifications are more accurate as there are fewer false triggers.

The Xtreem camera also has two-way audio up to 5m, so you can hear what you’re seeing, and also speak to visitors or pets – or scare the hell out of intruders.

Swann lets you save clips free on the cloud for one day, rolling over from one day to the next, or on the camera itself with an included 16GB or 32GB MicroSD card. However, if you want to save the footage for longer, you’ll need to pay upwards of $6.99 a month for the company’s Secure+ service. This will let you keep up to 60 days of rolling clips.

The camera can be controlled through the Swann Security app – which also lets you stream live video and receive notifications – and also works with voice control, via Google Assistant or Alexa.
