TCL launches flagship 20 Pro 5G phone – with a free TV

TCL has a new flagship smartphone in the form of the TCL 20 Pro 5G, a model which offers a number of display and camera upgrades.

And, from the launch today until July 29, the company is sweetening the deal on the $799 phone by offering it with a bonus TCL 43-inch Full HD LED Android Smart TV (the TCL S625) – worth $599. The offer is available via redemption.

If you like your displays big, you’ll like that the TCL 20 Pro 5G has a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen that curves across the edges to give a 93 per cent screen-to-body ratio.

It’s powered by the company’s proprietary NXTVISION 2.0 Intelligent Display engine. This delivers highly accurate colours and also adjusts the colour, contrast and sharpness on the fly to suit the content on the screen.

Security comes via on-display fingerprint recognition.

The TCL 20 Pro 5G has a four-camera array on the rear – a 48-megapixel primary lens, plus ultra-wide, macro and depth sensor – and an HDR-enabled 32MP front camera. Some of the key camera features are optical image stabilisation, scene detection, 2X lossless zoom, 10X digital zoom and real-time bokeh – that professional-looking blur you get behind the subject

There’s also a Backlight Selfie mode, which should go a long way towards improving your shots when the sun is behind you or you’re in the shade.

The TCL 20 Pro 5G will soon be able to use Multi-Screen Collaboration, which lets you use your phone, tablet and TV together in a seamless way – such as showing your phone screen on your tablet or use your phone as a touchpad to control your TV. It will be enabled on the 20 Pro 5G via a soon-to-come software update.

In terms of power, the phone has a 4500mAh battery – which TCL says will last well over a full day – and has 18W fast charging and 15W fast wireless charging.

For those interested in the more techie stuff, the phone runs Android 11 with the TCL UI skin and, like the rest of TCL’s 20 Series lineup, has been verified by Google as an Android Enterprise Recommended device.

It runs a Qualcomm SM7225 Snapdragon 750G 5G (8 nm) chipset and has 6GB of RAM, 256GB internal storage and micro SD capacity of up to 1TB.

In announcing the new Android phone, TCL Communication Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands Channel Manager said, “TCL is a well-known and trusted household name in many parts of the world and has been in Australia for a long time. Today’s launch of the 20 Pro 5G is yet another example of what we are able to deliver to Australian consumers who want the very latest features in a beautiful but affordable smartphone.

“Our innovation and heritage in display technology and owning our own manufacturing throughout means that we can deliver a high-performance smartphone with industry-leading display and a range of new innovations, all for under $800.”

The TCL 20 Pro 5G is available in Moondust Gray and Marine Blue.
