Laptop headlines new range of TCL devices

TCL Mobile has branched out into the laptop world, announcing the new TCL BOOK 14 Go at the CES 2022 tech show in Las Vegas, along with the second-generation NXTWEAR AIR wearable display glasses, the NXTPAPER 10s tablet and the new 30-series flagship range of mobile phones – starting with two US-specific models.

TCL’s first notebook computer is a Windows 11 model “designed for students and young professionals entering the working world”.

It has a 14.1-inch display, comes in with a thickness of just under 14mm and weighs 1.3kg. For working remotely, the TCL BOOK 14 Go has 4G LTE connectivity and is able to switch seamlessly between Wi-Fi and mobile data.

Under the hood are Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c ARM-based architecture and a battery that the company says will last for 12 hours.

The second generation of TCL’s wearable display glasses, the NXTWEAR AIRs are 30 per cent lighter than the previous pair – they weigh just 75g with the standard lenses (the glasses come with two lens style options) – and the company says they’re more comfortable as well.

The NXTWEAR AIRs give you an experience equivalent to watching a 140-inch screen sitting 4m, which is similar to a cinema experience. They do this via the use of dual 1080p Micro OLED displays with a resolution of 47 pixels per degree.

Dual speakers give you stereo audio, or you can connect your own wired or wireless headphones.

Using a USB-C connection, the glasses work with a wide range of smartphones and many laptops and tablets for movie viewing, watching sports, private work and even gaming.

With the amount of time we spend staring at the screens of mobile devices, TCL has put the focus of its new NXTPAPER 10s tablet firmly on eye protection.

Blue light reduction has been built directly into the tablet’s software and hardware. Natural colours are retained through a paper-like display which also reduces blue light emissions by 50 per cent. An anti-glare finish adds to the viewing quality by enabling clear viewing from any angle.

The tablet has a pressure-sensitive screen that works with TCLs proprietary T Pen, and has an 8000mAh battery that will provide more than a full day’s use.

TCL says its new 30 Series smartphones will feature clear and vivid AMOLED displays with NXTVISION technology and low blue-light emission.

For the moment we know that the 30 XE 5G and 30 V 5G will be exclusive to the US market, with Europe set to get the TCL 30 5G. As far as Australia is concerned, it looks like we’ll be getting more details at Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress at the end of February.
