TCL launches sub-$200 Alcatel 1SE smartphone in Australia

The new Alcatel 1SE smartphone is set to shake up the sub-$200 market with features like a triple-rear camera, high-capacity battery and a 6.22-inch display.

The three-camera setup on the rear consists of a 13-megapixel main lens, 5-megapixel super wide-angle (120 degree) and 2-megapixel depth lens. It features AI scene detection technology which captures 12 different subjects and scenes and automatically optimises colour, detail and lighting in real time.

On the front is a 5-megapixel camera with LCD flash for selfies and video calls.

The Alcatel 1SE has a 6.22-inch HD+ Vast Display (720 x 1520 pixels), which the company says will deliver vibrant colours. The display covers 87 per cent of the phone’s front, and is housed in 2.5D glass which has a slight curvature towards the edges.

The back of the phone is matte-painted polycarbonate with a radial texture.

Inside the Android phone is an octa-core processor, which uses eight processor cores to improve load times and more efficiently handle advanced tasks such as HD videos and graphic-heavy games.

This also reduces the drain on the battery, which has a 4000mAh capacity – more than the new Apple iPhone 12 range.

The company says this will give 28 hours of talk time on a 4G network and 1150 hours of standby time. Charging time is less than three hours.

So how does the price get so low? TCL says this is due to the fact that it owns the factories and display/panel companies that produce Alcatel and TCL-branded smartphones, and can therefore reduce manufacturing inefficiencies.

“Affordable smartphones play an essential role in the industry, offering accessibility to technology to those who can’t or don’t want to fork out the exorbitant cost of a new flagship smartphone,” says Alcatel VP and Regional Managing Director, South East Asia & Pacific, Sam Skontos.

“We take pride in being able to really drive inclusions and offer consumers features that were in much more expensive devices just a few short years ago.”
