Soundboks Go: A speaker to get the party started
The Soundboks Go is not South African, and has nothing to do with the Springboks; instead, it’s Danish and is a new portable Bluetooth speaker.
The original Soundboks is a large-suitcase-sized speaker designed by three high school friends “who wanted to break through the noise of Roskilde Festival with the loudest music and the best parties” and “designed and built a speaker that would outlast the wildest nights and take anything our favourite week-long, outdoor festival could throw at it”.
Needless to say, the behemoth packs a wallop and is praised for its loudness, deep bass and impressive sound quality.
But what about when you want something more portable and don’t need to fill a stadium with sound? The Soundboks Go is a smaller version more suited to house parties, backyards and parks.
While it’s smaller than the Soundboks, the Go is still a pretty big unit, weighing close to 9kg and about the size of a carry-on case. Its unibody cabinet is both dent-proof and splashproof.
On board are two 72W class D amplifiers and a swappable battery that Soundboks says will deliver up to 80 hours of listening on a single charge or 10 hours at full volume.
The speaker can connect to up to four nearby Soundboks or Go speakers. An app doubles as a remote control, allows you to customise the sound to suit the space and input, lets you lock Bluetooth access and has an anti-theft lock to keep the unit protected.
