Musical Fidelity M8xi amp wins high-end EISA Award

Musical Fidelity’s M8xi amp – a beast of a component that counters its 550W-per-channel output with incredible finesse – has won the EISA Award 2020-2021 for Best High-End Integrated Amplifier.

We’ve been drooling over this flagship audiophile-level amp since its release. It’s genuinely “dual mono” as each of its two channels has its own monobloc power amp with separate power supply and heat sink. They’re fed by a separate preamp sitting on the same chassis.

The blurb accompanying the award from EISA (Expert Imaging and Sound Association) says: “Musical Fidelity has always designed fabulous big amplifiers, following its belief that you can never have too much power. Now under Austrian ownership, and sharing a stable with Pro-Ject Audio Systems, it’s delivered the M8xi, offering a massive 550W – which it comfortably exceeds from its dual-mono construction.

“Inputs extend to both digital and analogue audio options, but this isn’t just a big prize-fighter of an amp: it’s also fast and nimble, delivering music with both speed and accuracy, not to mention masses of detail. If you want your amp all in one box, and superlative performance, this is the one to buy.”

It’s not just its power and top-level specs that make the Musical Fidelity M8xi amplifier a beast. It weighs 40kg and has a big price tag … you can expect to pay about $12,000 at retail in Australia.
