Epson EH-TW5700 projector gives a big picture for a medium price
Big-picture enthusiasts who want the streaming benefits of a smart TV but don’t want to spend $11,000 on an 85-inch TV should check out the just-released Epson EH-TW5700 – a home-theatre projector which has Chromecast and app connectivity and can give you a 330-inch picture for a fraction of the price.
The $1,599 projector makes it easy to wirelessly stream your favourite online content – anything from Netflix and Stan to YouTube and TikTok – direct to the projector via Chromecast from your iPhone, iPad or Android smartphone or tablet.
It also has the built-in ability to stream content from over 4,000 apps, just like a smart TV does. The voice-controlled interface is called Epson Smart Media.
The EH-TW5700 projector has a built-in 10W speaker if you really need it – such as taking it outside to watch movies next to the pool – but can also output audio via cable or Bluetooth to your audio system.
Among its other features are 2,700-Lumens colour and white brightness and a contrast ratio of up to 35,000:1, which promises to deliver a great picture even with ambient light in the room.
The projector outputs at 1080p, also known as Full High Definition, which is what you’d expect at this price point. You’d have to spend at least another $1,000 or so to get a 4K Ultra High Definition model which has four times the resolution.
