Aussie pets get their own taxi service

Australian animals can now ride unaccompanied to the vet or grooming service via a new Pet Taxi app from PetCloud.

It’s like an Uber for pets – owners can book a pet taxi on demand or schedule a ride up to 72 hours in advance. Once on board, the animal’s ride can be tracked in real time and an estimated time of arrival can be given to the person receiving the pet.

The Pet Taxi drivers are police-checked, trained in animal handling and insured with liability insurance up to $10 million and pet transit insurance up to $5 million.

There are currently more than 1100 drivers in the program in a number of locations around Australia, from Hobart to Darwin and Perth to Coffs Harbour.

“There are more pets than people in Australia with last estimates at around 30 million, which adds up to a lot of pet health and grooming appointments,” PetCloud CEO Deb Morrison says.

“Whether a pet needs a ride home from a mid-morning grooming appointment or a ride to the vet for a dental check-up, pet owners can’t always stop half-way through their workday to pick up their pets, and we know that not all pet owners have a car.

“PetCloud’s mission has always been to remove barriers to pet ownership and make responsible pet care easy and we are proud to say we have found a new way to do this through our Pet Taxi app.”

The service has the backing of RSPCA Queensland, which is a part-owner of PetCloud and provides its call centre for customer support.

PetCloud itself is an established pet-care platform, offering services including pet sitting, house sitting, pet-care home visits, dog walking, daycare, dog training, dog washing and grooming.
